Mum still waiting five weeks after reporting water through ceiling

A MUM has hit out at Redditch Borough Council after failing to fix a leak in the flat above – leaving water to come through the ceiling into her premises for five weeks.

Tiffany Berrington said the leak is so dangerous her six year old daughter has slipped over on the water on the floor and nearly hit her head.

“Five weeks ago a leak started from the flat above my flat so I rang the council to repair it.

“They sent three different people out over a span of three weeks, they then sent another plumber two weeks ago and he said the leak was coming from upstairs.

“The plumber said he has no idea how bad the floorboards are or how bad the mould will be underneath, and as there’s electrics in the ceiling and only a small amount of concrete, he doesn’t know how bad it could get.”

She said she is shocked at how long it has taken the council to attend the matter.

“The council leave people in this state and do not fix the issues with their properties and it’s time people know how bad it’s getting.

“These properties were meant so people could have somewhere to live and this is the state they leave us in.”

A council spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our repairs and maintenance staff have been out to assess the leak and, after some difficulty accessing the neighbouring flat above, established where the leak is coming from.

“Temporary measures have been put in place in the interim and a date to fix the issue is scheduled for mid-June.

“We apologise for any miscommunication on our part, or any distress caused to the resident as a result.”
