A GROUP of 17 volunteers from Redditch and Bromsgrove are set to give breast-feeding advice to mums-to-be.
The ‘Breast Buddies’ scheme is made up of local mothers who use the drop-in support groups to help others.
All of the volunteers have personal experiences with breastfeeding and receive specialised training from a Worcestershire Health Care Trust infant feeding coordinator.
The latest group of volunteers received their qualifications at a presentation last Friday, March 29.
Louise Langston, service manager at Breast Buddies, said: “We’re very proud of our current group of volunteers in Redditch and Bromsgrove who officially qualified last week.
“All of the ladies have worked hard to get to this point and we have no doubt they will be an enormous help to any mothers out there who are struggling with breastfeeding or just need a bit of support.”
The training covers a wide range of topics including responsive feeding, positioning, introduction to solids and how to return to work.
Louise added: “The Breast Buddies’ groups are friendly places to meet other new mums and their babies.
“I would encourage any new mums or mums-to-be who are or would like to breastfeed to come along.”
The volunteers work alongside beastfeeding support workers at Holly Trees Centre in Redditch on Mondays and Fridays and at Pear Trees Children’s Centre in Bromsgrove on a Wednesday.
All groups run from 10am to 11.30am.
