A NEW outdoor learning area has been installed at a Redditch school.
Volunteers from David Wilson Homes Mercia went to Abbeywood First School to create a nature reserve to the school’s specifications.
The transformation included the installation of new fencing, raised garden beds, a pond, picnic benches, bird feeders, a hedgehog house and a mud kitchen, creating a stimulating, accessible space which will be used daily by pupils across the school.
Zoe Gilmour, Abbeywood First School principal, said everyone was incredibly grateful to David Wilson Homes and all the partners involved in the project.
“The dedication, generosity and teamwork shown by the volunteers have transformed our outdoor space into something truly special.
“This garden and pond area will have a lasting impact on our pupils, supporting learning, wellbeing and a love of the natural world.
“It stands as a wonderful example of how community partnerships can make a real difference to children’s lives.”
The project was delivered through partnership working – Shannonside completed the groundwork and e3p donated a mud kitchen and provided additional on-site support.
Further contributions were made by Carpenter Landscapes, SJ Richards Ltd, and Alliance – all helped bring the vision to life.
Ms Gilmour added: “The new space provides opportunities for curriculum-linked outdoor learning, environmental awareness, sensory play and social development, supporting both academic outcomes and pupil wellbeing.
“The collective kindness and thoughtfulness of everyone involved has created not only a beautiful outdoor space, but also a legacy that will benefit our children for years to come.”
Helen Lewis, David Wilson Homes Mercia managing director, said the firm was incredibly proud to be part of the fantastic project
“The results are so wonderful to see and we also want to thank our fantastic team of volunteers for truly getting stuck in, as well as all the supporting businesses who lent a hand.”
