Neat work: Redditch arrivals DCS clean up historic fly tipping mess

BIG-HEARTED staff at DCS Group in Redditch have rolled up their sleeves to clean up a load of historic litter near their North Moons Moat premises.

The family owned company, which specialises in distributing household goods from consumer giants like Procter and Gamble as well as making its own products, only moved into its new Ravensbank Drive manufacturing base in January.

However they were recently contacted by a group of community litterpickers who had come across a large deposit of very old litter in woodland off Ravensbank Drive, by the bridlepath.

Renowned Redditch runner, Dr Doug Richards, a member of the group, said: “There were hundreds of vending machine coffee cups, alongside sandwich and sweet wrappers and it appeared to have been thrown over the perimeter fence of the adjoining industrial unit.

“Although I took away two large bags of litter, I barely scratched the surface of it.

“I contacted the general manager of the present occupants of the industrial site in question, DCS Group.

“He explained that they had only occupied the unit since January of this year and, in any case, did not have a vending machine on site.

“The unit had been unoccupied for two years prior to them moving in.

“However, as DCS Group consider themselves an environmentally friendly company, he agreed to put together a team of workers to clear the mess, even though it wasn’t of their making.”

The team at DCS duly rolled up their sleeves and got to work clearing away all the litter.

Doug said: “I think we should be highlighting these very positive actions as much as we condemn those who continue to discard their litter around our town.”

DCS director Charles Shortt said: “Being privately owned family business, we always take pride in our environment and the community. We are happy to be making improvements to the local area.

“We are incredibly excited to have moved our health and beauty factory to Redditch. We are proud to be investing in British manufacturing and our community.”
