Network Rail to launch investigation after severe delays on Redditch line

NETWORK Rail have committed to conducting a  a full investigation into the recent wave of service cancellations and delays impacting rail passengers travelling to and from Redditch.

This comes after town MP Chris Bloore received numerous complaints from commuters after a series of delays.

Mr Bloore met with Denise Wetton, Network Rail’s Central Route Director, last week to raise the issue of significant disruption caused primarily by repeated points failures along the Redditch line.

“I know how frustrating these disruptions have been for local people – commuters trying to get to work, students trying to reach school or university and families depending on reliable transport,” said Mr Bloore.

“I made it crystal clear to Network Rail that these repeated failures are unacceptable and have had a real impact on people’s lives. I welcome their decision to launch a full investigation and to take urgent action to understand the root causes and put solutions in place.”

Network Rail has now agreed to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the repeated technical failures affecting Redditch services.

The aim is not only to diagnose the issues but also to develop clear, long-term solutions to prevent further disruption.

The MP confirmed that he will continue to monitor the progress of the investigation into recent disruptions and will maintain pressure on Network Rail, West Midlands Railway and the Department for Transport to act on its findings and accelerate future infrastructure upgrades.

As well as addressing immediate concerns, the meeting also explored the future of rail in the region.

The Standard reported last week there was delays to the service expansion in Redditch, and uncertainty about the prospect of a new railway station for the town.

“Crucially, the Midlands Rail Hub will make it easier to run more frequent and reliable services to Redditch in the years ahead,” said Mr Bloore.

“I’ve made the case for delivering these improvements sooner rather than later.

“I’ll keep pushing for those extra services to be introduced as soon as possible.”
