Charity officially launches despite already having good reputation

A NEW charity that’s already doing great work serving the community of Redditch was officially launched last Saturday.

The Old Needle Works Foundation on Britten Street – formerly Britten Street Hub Community Interest Company – is already the most referred to organisation for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the area.

Saturday’s event saw it fully launched to the public and marked the start of the charity’s new BENS Wellbeing coaching project, backed by a £256,944 grant over five years from the National Lottery Community Fund.

“BENS – Bond, Enrich, Nurture, Support – is our project for children and young adults aged four to 24 which works with them around building confidence, positive self image, resilience and well-being both in groups and in one-to-one sessions,” said Elaine Grant, chief executive of The Old Needle Works Foundation.

“We are the most referred to organisation by CAMHS for children as well as from other agencies and families self-referring.”

The charity has around 50 young people getting one to one sessions and last week also saw in the region of 100 adults.

“Although we are focusing on well-being we are still working with vulnerable people and still doing our community learning,” added Elaine.

Launch day saw a family fun day organised by the BENS groups with all money raised going to buy gym equipment for the youngsters.
