A NEW church has opened its doors in Oakenshaw.
Called the Ridgeway Community Church it has been founded by Bill Finnimore, fresh from five years as the minister at Cookhill Baptist Church.
Starting with a congregation of about a dozen he is hoping to reach out into the community and steadily grow attendance.
“I feel there has been a departure from a reliance on the Bible and the authoritative word of God,” said the minister, who lives in Astwood Bank with his wife Joy.
“And that I think this at the heart of the reason why there has been a spiritual decline.”
Based in at the Windmill Community Centre in Rye Grass Lane, services will be at 10.30am on Sunday mornings, and should last about an hour.
“I’m doing this because life is too short to miss the point of living,” said Bill.
