New community lottery scheme to be showcased to Redditch charities

Redditch Editorial 7th Nov, 2019 Updated: 7th Nov, 2019   0

THE Borough Council is to launch its new Redditch Community Lottery to local good causes next Tuesday, November 12.

It’s inviting any voluntary community sector (VCS) groups, charities or organisations to apply to benefit from the lottery.

The scheme, which will be launched to the public later in the year, will support good causes and provide the opportunity for them to receive extra funding.

Interested groups will be able to find out how the Lottery works and how they can benefit by attending a “Good Causes Launch Event” from 6pm to 8pm at Redditch Town Hall.

If they like what they see they can sign up for the scheme on the night.

Good Causes could include anything from animal charities to disability groups, health charities, local scout groups and more.

The council says there will be some eligibility criteria, but it will be up to the groups in Redditch to put themselves forward.

VCS and charity organisations can nominate themselves to be added to the list of good causes.

Lottery players can then choose which good causes to donate 50 per cent of the ticket cost to. A further ten per cent will go into the Redditch Community Fund pot.

Councillor Mike Rouse, whose portfolio covers Leisure Services, said: “We have been upfront about the council’s financial position and the challenges and difficult decisions we face.

“I am delighted about the launch of the community lottery which will provide an additional way for our valuable VCS to be supported, with up to 60 per cent of the spend from each ticket up for grabs.

“Players can be assured that the money from their tickets will go towards supporting a good cause and they could be in the running for a £25k jackpot. So it’s win-win for everyone!”

The event will include two short presentations and the opportunity to ask questions, followed by light refreshments.

To attend and find out more about the Lottery, email [email protected] or call Ann Dallison on 01527 534136.

More information about the Redditch Community Lottery is available at www.redditchbc.gov.uk/lottery.

The lottery scheme was approved by Redditch Borough Council in March this year.

The plan details that the council will donate 50p of every £1 from each lottery ticket to good causes.

From each sale the council will take 10p with 20p going towards prize money which includes £25 for three numbers correct, £250 for four, £2,000 for five and a top prize of £25,000 for six.

Two number right will bring three free tickets.

Labour opposed the scheme saying other local charities would be hit by its introduction.
