New Dementia Meeting Centres set to open in Redditch and Bromsgrove

Redditch Editorial 17th Jul, 2022   0

DEMENTIA care in Bromsgrove and Redditch is set to be significantly improved when the two towns get new meeting centres.

The concept, based on a Dutch model, was trialed in Droitwich Spa where it proved very successful.

The centres provide meaningful and engaging activities for members, their families and carers.

The introduction of the centres – by Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire – builds on the popular network of services offered by the charity and will extend the support to include the particular needs of those diagnosed with dementia at a younger age.

Kelly Baya from Age UK H&W said everyone was thrilled about the new meeting centres as they would increase the charity’s ability to reach across the two counties, positively impacting the experiences of those living with dementia, their loved ones and carers.

“We are particularly excited to see our plans for offering more support for people diagnosed with Young Onset Dementia come together.

“We recognise those of working age diagnosed with dementia have a particular range of challenges to overcome.”

An open day at the Redditch Meeting Centre, at Forge Mill Needle Museum, will be held next Monday, July 25 and the Bromsgrove one – at Crabtree Court, Parkwood Road – will be on Tuesday, July 26. Both take place between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

The Redditch Centre is being supported by Rubicon Leisure which offered the charity the room at a discount and free access to the museum’s exhibitions.

Anyone interested in attending the open days should call 0800 008 6077 or email [email protected] for more information.
