New group to help those needing friendship and support in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 10th Mar, 2017   0

A NEW group to support those living with mental health conditions has been launched in Redditch.

The Friendship and Support Group, run by Mary Jones, will now also meet at Willow Trees Community Centre in Church Hill on Tuesday mornings from 11am to 1pm offering a safe place to people suffering with mental ill health as well as for carers.

In addition to the weekly meetings held at The Space in Winyates Centre on Thursdays, the new slot at Willow Trees aims to help those wanting to share with and support each other in a safe and close-knit environment.

Mary, who hosts the groups, said: “We hope that our new group will make life easier for those wanting a quiet and safe place to come for advice and support.

“We are looking forward to welcoming new members to the group and are always here to offering a listening ear and friendly chat.”

The support group who rely on charity funding have been unable to secure grants this year, but the space at Willow Trees has been donated free of charge by Church Hill Big Local.

Mary added: “We are incredibly lucky that the Big Local and REACH projects understand how important our work in the community is and that they are able to support us in this way.

“Without them, I fear our groups wouldn’t be so accessible and many people in need of support and friendship would be left at the wayside.”
