A NEW high bailiff has been sworn in to head up Alcester’s historic Court Leet at the recent annual elections.
Sharon Constable took over from Tracy Parkes on October 9 and the second woman voted high bailiff in the court’s long and illustrious history.
Marc Venables who had the top job in 2022 has made a comeback as low bailiff.
The news was formally announced to the people on Alcester High Street on Saturday afternoon by town crier David Parkes in a special ‘cry’.
Sharon said: “It is both a great honour and privilege to stand as high bailiff of Alcester Court Leet.
“Tradition is important but our role is not just to preserve tradition, but to champion progress that benefits our whole community.
“Tradition gives us identity, continuity and pride in our town.
“But, just as important, is that what we do still matters today – that our actions continue to make Alcester a more connected place for everyone.
“A town of tradition, inclusivity, community spirit and of course, good ale.”
The court’s first fundraising event of the new year is a Day of the Dead-themed disco at Alcester town hall tomorrow (Saturday November 1).
A few tickets at £23.50 per person are available which includes supper.
