New interactive walks give people a chance to discover Redditch through young eyes

PEOPLE are being urged to ‘discover the Redditch on their doorstep’ with a unique series of interactive walks created by the talented pupils of Woodrow First School and Worcester-based Collar and Tie theatre company.

The group specialises in fusing creativity and technology and saw Woodrow as the perfect partner for its latest project due to the school’s internationally recognised approach to education.

The result is a trio of fun walks for all the family narrated by the children themselves and all you need to enjoy them is a smart phone and the link to the walk – no app is needed.

The first walk takes in a stroll through the sites and sounds of Wirehill Woods, while the second features some of the magical places in Woodrow itself.

For the third walk, road tested with the help of local Redditch councillors, takes you to Arrow Valley Lake and the the ‘Harry Diggins Needle Makers Walk, which tells the history of the needle making industry in the town.

Woodrow headteacher Richard Kieran said: “Collar and Tie had got some funding and, together with Prospero Digital, asked themselves which school was creative, which school was imaginative and they came to Woodrow because they know what the children here are like.

“So, we have been to Wirehill Woods, we have been in and around Woodrow and we have been to the lake where we met lots of interesting people and where we have told the story of the needle industry.

“The children have loved it and for me it shows the depth and breadth of an already stimulating curriculum here at Woodrow.”
