New Redditch Mayor to be chosen at next full council meeting

Redditch Editorial 26th Oct, 2019   0

A NEW Mayor for Redditch will be chosen at next month’s meeting of the borough council.

Councillor Roger Bennett (Con, Headless Cross, Oakenshaw) stood down from the post after he was suspended from the Conservative Party following ‘inappropriate’ postings he had made on social media.

His supension is for a period of six months and he will now sit as an independent councillor.

Coun Bennett had been expected to formally open the Redditch Rethinks Rubbish Expo at the Town Hall last Saturday, October 19, but dropped out at short notice.

Deputy Mayor Gareth Prosser (Con, Crabbs Cross) will step up to the top job temporarily until the new mayor is chosen at the next full council meeting on November 18.

Coun Bennett was first elected seven years ago and became Mayor for the year 2019/20.
