A NEW and longer route for this year’s Redditch Carnival has been announced by organisers.

The fun family event, which makes a welcome return this Saturday, September 21, will start from Birchfield playing fields in Headless Cross.

All floats, vehicles and bikes, will set off at 2.30pm and turn right down Birchfield Road onto the Bromsgrove Road before picking up walkers and bands at Redditch Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Squash Club.

The parade then continues on Bromsgrove Road, going up Unicorn Hill onto Church Green West, Easemore Road, right onto Archer Road and Grove Street before ending at Trinity High School.

A carnival fun day will be taking place from midday onwards around the bandstand in the town centre and will feature food stalls, stands, musical performances and Wilson’s funfair.

Simon Biddle, from Biddles convenience shop, said: “I think the new carnival parade route will be great for the local community and it’s the first time it’s been down Birchfield Road.

“We have all the new houses now, so it will be great for the community to get together. I think it’ll be a fantastic day so come and join us to celebrate.”

Children aged two to 11 years who want to take part in the parade are invited to dress up as princesses, pirates and superheroes and sign in at the sports club at 2pm. All participants need to be accompanied by an adult.

Event lead Jo Bussey said: “The Redditch Carnival Association team is working hard behind the scenes to bring the Redditch community carnival parade, which is growing each year.

“We can’t wait to bring the carnival back to Redditch again so here’s to making more memories with everyone at our iconic event.

“Last year the community came out in force to support us and that makes it all worthwhile. We look forward to seeing everybody on the day.”

As the route has got longer the team is looking for additional volunteers to help as marshals.
