New sign aims to slow down Redditch drivers

A NEW Vehicular Activated Sign (VAS) has been installed in a bid to slow down drivers and make Lodge Park and Greenlands safer for residents, writes Daisy Dillon.

The illuminated sign, which flashes when drivers exceed the speed limit, has been installed after work by Coun Emma Marshall.

The Worcestershire County Councillor has used her a share of her divisional highways fund to purchase three of the solar-powered signs which can be moved around to areas where motorists are flouting the law.

Coun Marshall said: “Speeding is an issue residents contact me about regularly.

“I have heard residents of Arrow Valley West and have acted to reduce the speed of cars in the area.

“These VAS signs are solar powered and therefore very portable.

“The idea is to move them around the division to have regular reminders for drivers to watch their speed.”

Over the last two years there have been multiple VASs installed across the town, as well as zebra crossings outside of schools and other speed reduction measures such as the speed bumps on Bromsgrove Road.

She added making roads safer was one of her and other county councillors’ priorities.
