New stop smoking service

Redditch Editorial 23rd Jan, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A NEW stop smoking service is being held at Redditch Library to help those wanting to quit the habit.

Sessions will take place every Monday between 10am and 12.30pm at the Market Place venue.

Those interested in ditching the fags will be able to get free, professional one-to-one advice and support to quit.

According to NHS England stop smoking statistics from the Health and Social Care Information Centre, between April and September last year 2,224 people across Worcestershire set a quit date with 50 per cent of them successfully managing to give up for good.

The majority of them, 1,913, received one to one support.

It cost the public purse £122 for every smoker in Worcestershire who quit during the six month period. But overall smoking is costing Worcestershire’s NHS £19million a year and the wider economy £127million.

For more information on the stop smoking sessions call Redditch Library on 01905 822722 or Jane Pugh from mytimeactive on 07792 946 948.
