New year may bring home beauty crown

A BROCKHILL beauty is hoping to cycle her way to success and be crowned Miss Worcestershire in the new year.

Rachael Baker will usher in 2016 by completing a gruelling 32-mile bike ride on January 2 – barely giving herself time to recover from the New Year’s Eve festivities.

The 22-year-old, who attended RSA Academy Arrow Vale, is fund-raising for the competition’s charity – Beauty With a Purpose – which is at the heart of the Miss World pageant and an important part of Miss Worcestershire.

Rachael will cycle the 32-mile round trip from Redditch to Worcester Warriors Sixways Stadium and back with the help of Team GB cyclist and close friend Beth Crumpton.

“I’m a bit nervous,” said Rachael, “but I am really looking forward to it – I’m training on my exercise bike at home but I haven’t ridden a bike on the road for around ten years.”

Rachael is one of 28 girls taking part in the competition, on January 10, chosen from a field of 400 entries.

The lucky beauty to be crowned Queen of the county will automatically be entered into the Miss England final.

This is Rachael’s second year competing and having finished her studies at the University of Wolverhampton where she was reading Fashion and Textiles is going all out for victory.

And she is keen to put her hometown on the map: “I’m proud to be from Redditch and I love living here – I could never imagine moving away.”

Rachel, who works as a retail supervisor at the Kingfisher Centre’s Debenhams, is sponsored by Redditch car vinyl wrapping company Reddiwraps and is supported by bike shop Redditch Cycle Studio in Church Green East.
