RESIDENTS looking to get more active at their own pace can join in with free weekly walks around the Abbey Stadium Track.
The sessions are part of the national ‘Walks for Health Scheme’ and are led by three trained volunteers.
Leisure services portfolio holder, Councillor Mike Rouse, said: “We started offering these sessions before Covid and they were starting to take off, so I’m delighted to see them coming back.
“With more people working from home these days, they’re now an ideal opportunity to get out of the house and get moving in a nice and easy way.”
Participants can turn up at any time during the session to enjoy a safe, flat walk, in a friendly environment with cafe and toilet facilities on hand.
Just register with the volunteers at the track before beginning.
The walks will re-start from Wednesday, June 16, 11am at the Abbey Stadium.
Free training, support and guidance is also available for anyone that would like to help at Walking for Health sessions.
If you would like to speak to someone about the sessions or about volunteering, call Hayley Gwilliam, physical activity development officer, on 01527 881404.
