No holding back Tudor Grange students in tribute to Les Mis

SCHOOL may be closed, but performing arts students at Tudor Grange Academy have refused to be silenced producing a lyp-synch video as an appetiser for their next production.

It comes after their sell out ‘We Will Rock You’ performance in March when the Performing Arts team discovered they had been successful in securing the licence for Les Miserables from Music Theatre International as their next school production.

Then a few days later the students and staff joined the UK in lockdown just when they were due to start rehearsals.

Undaunted, the team decided they must keep the momentum and excitement going so they joined forces to do something to lift everyone’s spirits by performing the song ‘One Day More’ from the smash-hit musical and movie.

Teacher and director Tracey Anne Wright invited the students to send in their lip-sync quarantine videos and within a week the finished article was ready for viewing on the school Facebook page.

The video was then shared with other social media platforms and the response has been absolutely overwhelming with more than 14,000 views in 24 hours.

“I am so proud of the talent we have at Tudor Grange, the students never cease to amaze me, I feel extremely privileged to be working with these young people, they are an absolute credit to their families,” said Mrs Wright.

“I would like to thank every student involved in this project, with a special thank you to George Evans of Year 12 for all his hard work editing the video.

“All the positive comments on social media have been fantastic and we can’t wait to start our rehearsals to make this show the best yet!”

In a stratement the TGAR students said: ”Despite the situation we are all involved in at this moment, we decided we would like to bring happiness to as many people as possible through music whilst also advertising our upcoming show that we are extremely excited to perform in 2021.”

Tudor Grange Academy principal Jodie Bolter added: “I am so proud of our students, when they sent me the film I must admit I had a lump in my throat and it really made me smile.

“I am so pleased the local community have also enjoyed their film and I hope that they will make a follow up film to keep us smiling!”
