EASTER Saturday saw a fantastic return of the Town Criers Competition to Alcester with eight criers from across the country taking part.
Marc Venables of Alcester Court Leet said they couldn’t have asked for a better welcome home than fine weather, bells, shouts and colour of the Heart of England Town Criers Competition.
Organised by David Parkes, Alcester’s own Town Crier, and a small committee of enthusiasts, the event proved as popular as ever.
A colourful parade started proceedings before things got underway with each crier doing two cries.
These consisted of a promotion of their home town, and secondly a cry for her Majesty the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee year, with each town crier each being marked on dictation, words carried and other judging elements.
The winner of the best dressed town crier went to Jane Smith of Bognor Regis while the overall trophy was clinched by Adrian Holmes of Sandwell with Peder Nielson of Bromyard and Wilmslow second and Micheal Reddy of Warwick third.
