A WEST MERCIA Police officer has been recognised by the High Sheriff of Worcestershire for his work in serving communities in Redditch for 20 years.

PC Paul Downes was given the High Sheriff Award for his two decades of service in a ceremony on Thursday 29 September.

Local community organisation Batchley Support Group was also recognised by the High Sheriff, Andrew Manning-Cox, who is one of the King’s representative in Worcestershire.

The award recognises the work of individuals, community groups or voluntary organisations, particularly those unsung heroes who go above and beyond to improve the lives of others in our communities.

PC Downes was nominated by Inspector Richard Field for his dedication and commitment to serving the community of Redditch.

Batchley Support Group is a charity that provides a bespoke service to the community of Redditch and surrounding areas, helping anyone who feels they may need advice or support with mental health, domestic violence or finances.

They also offer a community food pantry, emergency food parcels and so much more.

Inspector Richard Field said :”It was a real privilege to welcome the High Sheriff of Worcestershire to Redditch to present these prestigious awards.

“They recognise the hard work and dedication that has been made in our communities within Redditch.

“I would like to pass my heartfelt thanks to both Paul Downes and the Batchley Support Group for everything they do and continue to do to make our town a great place to visit, live and work.”
