Officers visit Redditch industrial estates following recent thefts

RURAL and Business Crime Officers (RABOs) joined the Safer Neighbourhood Team to provide crime prevention advice and reassurance following recent metal thefts in Redditch.

RABOs from West Merica Police Problem-Solving Hub have been out the Moons Moat Industrial Estate in the past week, visiting around 40 businesses so far, with more visits planned.

The engagement follows on from two commercial burglaries in January and February where premises were hit by thieves stealing more than £250,000 in metal castings from two units in Moons Moat.

There are also plans to set up a Business Watch scheme in the area where police can send alerts regarding industrial crimes and suspicious circumstances.

Sarah Sceats, North Worcestershire Rural and Business Crime Officer, said: “We have been visiting commercial premises on the industrial areas of Redditch following recent high value metal thefts, to provide reassurance and support to business owners and staff.

“As well as crime prevention advice, we handed out SmartWater property marking systems, and signed people up to our Neighbourhood Matters website to keep them informed of any crimes and incidents in the area as well as advising them of any policing actions and events where they ply their trade.

“We will be visiting more businesses in the coming days and weeks, but we would encourage any firms that want to get ahead of the game to join the Business Watch scheme we are setting up in the area.”
