Oh yes it will! Delayed festive panto to take to the stage at last

Ross Crawford 15th May, 2021

IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas this coming May half term – when the pandemic delayed panto Sleeping Beauty takes to the stage.

Produced by Studley-based company Aunty Jen Productions and with a cast from across Worcestershire and Warwickshire, the show’s at Studley Sports Centre just off the A435 by the Washford.

“After five months of waiting, we finally get to put our pantomime on stage, it’s been a very difficult year so we couldn’t be more excited!” said artistic director and leading lady Jen Stone.

“We’ll be rehearsing from May 26 and performing every day from May 28 to June 6.

“Audiences will be encouraged to wear their Christmas jumpers and the performances will contain everything you would expect from a traditional pantomime, after all… Sleeping Beauty is set in the land where time stands still!”

And the show is just the first part of a summer of performance.

In June/July the company will be staging ‘Romeo and Juliet’ with workshops and performances for local schools and public performances outdoors at Studley Sports and Social Club to coincide with the Studley Festival.

It will all take place on a 40ft trailer complete with a cameo appearance from ‘the wheelie bin’, last seen in their production A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Then in August they’ll be putting on their family show, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ with performances again at Studley Sports and Social Club.

Young people aged four to 16 can also sign up for a week of activities from August 23 with Aunty Jen’s Theatre Academy – acting, singing, dancing, stage combat and stage management – all leading to a special performance for friends and family on August 27.
