THE family ethos of Redditch-based PureGym is keeping its members and people further afield in shape and eating healthily during lockdown.
The team of personal trainers, Stu Baker, Paige Stabbins, Reece Hudson, Joe Daly, MattGwilliam and Florin Panaintescu are busy delivering 13 live classes a week for people to do from the comfort of their own front rooms.
Not only that, but they’re free too.
“This is very much a team effort, although I do my classes in fancy dress just to put a smile on people’s faces,” said assistant manager Stu.
“We host a coffee and natter every Wednesday and there are two live cooking classes on a Wednesday and a Friday.”
PureGym, at the top of the escalators from the bus station, is managed by Matty Williams and part of its appeal is its strong social aspect.
“As a team we pride ourselves on being a community club, and they’re more to us than just sweating away in a box,” said Stu.
“We run free seminars on mental health and nutrition for instance and so we set up a community group so there was a hub for everyone to help each other out.
“Quite a few members and staff are in their houses on their own so this sort of thing is important.”
Such has been the popularity of the classes more than 550 people tune in regularly with some from as far away as Australia also flexing their muscles online.
“I love cooking so we also do cook ups – we travel to a different country each day and I’ll show how to prepare a meal and cook it – I have a few followers and we can sit down and have a virtual dinner party.
“The whole aim of this is to spread the love throughout the Redditch community during these difficult times.”
