One-way on table to stop Studley rat-runners

PLANS to introduce a one-way system into New Road and Church Street in Studley have been proposed.

The idea, considered by the parish council on Tuesday, is aimed at stopping rat-runners improving traffic flow yet at the same time reducing speeds with speed bumps outside the junior school.

The option under consideration would make the road one-way from the A435 McCarthy & Stone building running south to Church Street and then left back onto the A435.

Similarly from Toms Town the system would run north before turning right into Church Street and then on to the A435.

Councillors acknowledged that this would lead to an increase on traffic on Church Street but Councillor Sue Redman said: “If we can find any way to slow the traffic down then that has to be an improvement.”

However, councillors were told it might take four to five years to get the scheme introduced.

Members also discussed the danger of heavy goods vehicles using Littlewood Green and Toms Town Lane as a cut through from the Bromsgrove Road to the A435, Coun Eric Holder reporting that a car transporter had got into difficulties negotiating the bends.

Also under discussion was the idea of relocating or installing a new pedestrian crossing in a more convenient location for users.

Councillors were urged to get as much evidence as possible so that when the proposals were put before the county council they could be backed up by facts.
