REDDITCH Food Bank was treated to a ‘devilish’ donation thanks to the big hearted stars from Redditch Operatic Society (ROS).
The troupers are currently rehearsing for their new show The Witches of Eastwick but took time out to donate more than £300 in food, toiletries and other non-perishable goods to the charity which helps local people in need.
Staff from the food bank visited the society on Tuesday (September 27) to collect the generous donations from ROS members and took the opportunity to watch the cast run through their lines.
Kelly-Louise Mitchell of ROS said: “As a group we are like a family and will always band together when it really counts and I am pleased this could be reflected in the donation we’ve managed to raise for the Food Bank, enabling us to give back to our home town and support them in their amazing work.”
The Food Bank is a project founded by local churches to help people in crisis by offering a minimum of three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food parcels.
In its three years the Food Bank has fulfilled 2,741 food vouchers through the referral agencies to local residents feeding nearly 5,000 people.
There is still a high demand meaning that donations like this one are essential.
Sarah Barcham, Food Bank project manager, said: “We can’t thank Redditch Operatic Society enough for this generous donation. They’ve provided us with items for our critical stock list and just in time, as we’ll soon be putting together parcels for people in need over Christmas.”
ROS will be performing The Witches of Eastwick at the Palace Theatre from November 15-19.
Tickets are available from Ann Duffin on 01527 527363, priced at £16/£17,with group rates available.
