AN OUTDOOR gym facility, with room for up to 30 people to exercise at once, will be built at Rubicon Leisure’s Abbey Stadium.
The proposed location for the gym is at the back of the swimming pool and the athletics track.
The £255,000 gym, expected to be built within the next 10 months, will be approximately 225 metres squared and will include fixed equipment.
It will be financed by Section 106 funds, secured through contributions from three local housing development schemes.
The schemes aim for improvement in fitness provision so that local residents moving into the houses can access local amenities.
Borough councillors see the gym as an opportunity to provide something unique in the town and help Redditch recover from the pandemic.
Coun Mike Rouse, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “Although we hope things will return to being as normal as possible, later this year an outdoor gym is still a sound investment at this site.
“It will increase capacity and provide more ways for local people to get and keep fit.”
