Panto hit by weather? Snow problem for Redditch theatre

THE panto at the Palace has proved another stunning success – despite losing four shows to the snowy weather.

The Alcester Street theatre’s production of Snow White was close to selling out throughout its month long run last December.

Estimates put attendances at 94 per cent – had the snow not intervened.

“The show went down really well and in fact we’ve already sold more than 3,000 tickets for this coming winter’s panto, when we’ll be doing Aladdin,” said Palace Theatre spokesman Paul Hughes.

“It’s almost as if people want to guarantee that they’ll get the tickets they want, which is just fantastic.”

The panto featured an all star cast of of children’s TV presenter, Dave Benson Phillips, soap star Nicola Faraday and 2011 Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall as well as a sprinkling of emerging talent and local children, and it went down a storm with audiences.

“The cast gelled really well and I think the audience could see that, picked up on it and had a good laugh themselves. Certainly, judging by the comments we got, people really loved it,” said Paul.

He added the beauty of the Palace’s production was that people can see a show the equal of anywhere in the country without going to the expense and hassle of travelling to a major city like Birmingham.

“I also think people love the intimacy of the venue,” he said.

“If you’re sitting at the back of the Birmingham Hippodrome you are some way from the stage while at the Palace you are right on top of the action!”

The stars love it too – Nicola Faraday also starred in the 2016 panto while this year Dave Benson Phillips returns in April for Alice in Wonderland alongside 2012 Britain’s Got Talent winner Ashleigh and Sully.

Tickets for this show – and Aladdin, are available from the box office in person, by phone on 01527 65203 or visit www.redditchpalacetheatre.co.uk/
