Panto treat for County’s child cancer patients

CHILDREN with cancer were treated to a trip to the pantomime after a collaboration between a county theatre and Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.

Around 150 children and families of those undergoing treatment for different forms of cancer attended the pantomime at Worcester’s Swan Theatre which this year was a spectacular family performance of Cinderella.

Theatre chiefs offered discounted tickets to the charity which funded the remaining cost from its Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund.

This year was the third time the Swan Theatre has put on this offer for young cancer patients in the county, along with their siblings, parents, and grandparents.

Children and Young People Oncology Nurse Specialist, Dawn Forbes said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Swan Theatre for their kind offer. Providing our patients and their families with tickets to the pantomime allows them to have an enjoyable family day out and make precious memories.

“Freddie and Alex [pictured] are continuing to receive treatment with us in our Children’s Clinic but had such a great time at the pantomime.”

Sophie Burt, head of fund-raising and community development for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity said: “The Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund is all about making special memories for children and their families going through cancer treatment.

“As part of Worcestershire Acute Hospital Charity, the fund is able to provide those added extras over and above core NHS services which make a huge difference to our patients.”
