Parents urged to sign school protest letter

Redditch Editorial 4th Jul, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

PARENTS are being urged to sign an open letter to borough headteachers urging them to work together to avoid chaos in Redditch’s school system.

Nichola Farnes, Rebecca Hyder and Sharon Harvey have penned the letter in response to Tudor Grange Academy Redditch’s proposal to start admitting pupils from the age of 11. Ridgeway Middle School, Astwood Bank First School and Webheath First School are also considering changes to their age of admission.

Although TGAR have deferred a decision on its proposal (see story on page 11) the group remain concerned about an uncoordinated restructure of the town’s education system if schools do go-ahead with the changes.

The letter calls for firm evidence the proposed changes are significantly better than other alternatives, urges headteachers to talk to each other and work with parents and to put the needs of the children first.

“The parents and children of Redditch need you to work together in partnership, to offer us practical solutions to a situation where we have been made to feel like pawns in a re-organisation game which so far has not had the needs of the children at its heart.”

Parents can add their name to the letter via the group’s Redditch School Changes page on Facebook.
