Parish hall set to become community hub following £185k revamp

A PARISH hall dating back to the early 1900s set to become Alcester’s community hub following a £185,000 revamp.

Work is underway to renovate the hall at Our Lady and St Joseph Church in time for an autumn opening.

Both the hall and kitchen are being renovated and an extension is being built with a new entrance porch.

The hall, which hasn’t been used for nearly three years, will also include a modern meeting room.

Parish priest Paul Gunter said: “I feel very optimistic about the opening because it will be a huge resource for the parish, Catholic school and the town.

“The hall will look very attractive once it’s complete and it is in an excellent location for groups to use.”

Cash for the renovation was raised by the community, the church’s priestship and the Archdiocese of Birmingham, Douai Abbey Trust.

“It’s been a real team effort,” added father Gunter.

It is hoped the site will be able to offer a full range of recreational, social and support services.
