PATIENTS undergoing eye procedures at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch are to benefit from faster, more efficient treatment thanks to a new piece of imaging equipment funded by the hospital’s League of Friends.
The state-of-the-art imaging technology can generate a complete image of the eye in seconds allowing surgeons to pinpoint problems quicker and more accurately.
The £26,000 Pentacam® can also be used to judge how a patient is responding to treatment.
The equipment means that clinics can be more streamlined as nurses can do all Pentacam® scans resulting in patients getting their diagnosis much quicker, reducing inappropriate treatments and unnecessary hospital stays.
Consultant ophthalmologist Geraint Williams said: “We are so grateful to the League of Friends for their generous donation.
“Having the Pentacam® gives us the opportunity to improve patient experience across our countywide services.
“We continually look to improve our services and this technology enables to do this as we can use it to improve patient care through our ongoing research.”
