Plan to suspend green bin charge in Alcester and Studley

Ross Crawford 25th Mar, 2020

AN initial payment of £1.6billion has been made to local authorities to cover the Covid-19 crisis by the government.

The majority of the money is going to those Councils facing increased demands for providing adult and child social care services like Worcestershire and Warwickshire County Councils.

Districts and boroughs will also get a share, with Stratford District Council, which covers Alcester and Studley, receiving £43,500 and Warwickshire County Council £14.07m.

Meanwhile the District looks set to postpone the introduction of charges for the collecting of green waste bins and suspend plans to increase parking charges at least until the pandemic is over – subject to Extraordinary Council approval.

The authority will also be issuing daily updates on the unfolding situation with coronavirus.

Steps taken so far include:

The closure of the District’s HQ at Elizabeth House in Stratford – people are asked not to go to these offices except in a dire emergency, such as homelessness. Even then, if possible call or email before hand.

People can still contact the District Council on 01789 267575 or email info@stratford-dc.gov.uk.

Business Rates and Support – the authority has already issued revised bills showing nothing to pay for those eligible businesses although Central Government has still to issue guidance on how other support will be provided for businesses.

The District Council has given a grant of £40,000 to ensure the VASA community service can continue to operate over the next three months.

It emphasises that its services for the Homelessness are definitely not shut down.
