PLANS to develop a ‘balancing area’ south of Ravensbank Drive to help divert water away from properties were unanimously backed by councillors at Redditch Borough Council’s planning meeting on Wednesday.
The balancing area will store water back and create a wetland environment – animal friendly – to help stop flooding in the area.
This land was once used as a balancing area however over time a concrete structure within the channel of the watercourse became dilapidated.
As a result high flows of water are able to travel downstream and create flooding problems at Moons Moat Drive, Arley Close, Hillmorton Close and Fairford Close.
At the meeting, Fairford Close resident Kevin Tablotts said: “I just want to say I support this application but something needs to be done about the brash of wood and branch debris which is left by the council at the site.”
Coun Michael Chalk, who chaired the meeting, said: “We leave the brash behind when maintaining the area so it creates habitats for animals in the area to thrive in.
Mr Tablotts hit back saying: “Yes I understand that as I leave brash myself, but there is a difference between leaving brash and leaving a mess.”
Coun Bennett (Con, Headless Cross & Oakenshaw) was also happy to see the plans go ahead.
He said: “I think this will be extremely beneficial to the community and I have absolutely no objections to it.”
