Plans submitted to demolish Redditch Police Station

PLANS have been submitted to demolish Redditch Police Station.

The demolishing is to take place once a new emergency service hub is built.

On June 16 planning permission was granted to demolish the existing training tower on Middlehouse Lane and build a joint emergency hub shared by West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

The existing police and fire station facilities in Redditch will be open until the hub is complete.

Planning documents submitted say that: “The existing police and fire stations in Redditch have reached the end of their serviceable life and are no longer fit for purpose.

“The disjointed layout of the existing police station in Redditch town centre, being of 1960s construction, no longer provides suitable accommodation for the functions and services that are required.

“This is an issue that cannot be remedied by seeking to improve the fabric or configuration of the existing building.”

Demolition work is predicted to begin on November 8 2023 and finish on April 24, 2024.
