Plea after goose trapped in net at Arrow Valley Park is set free

PLEASE don’t leave litter lying around at Arrow Valley Lake – that’s the plea from Wychbold Swan Rescue Centre after rescuing a Canada goose trapped in plastic netting and wrapping.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public around lunchtime on Wednesday, May 20 and John Stewart from the rescue centre was on the scene within minutes.

“He had plastic netting all around him and was obviously in distress,” said John.

“We only just managed to catch him and they’re feisty little things and trying to get it off him was a bit of a struggle – goodness knows where he picked it up from.”

John said he was disappointed at the amount of litter left lying around too and dogs running around off their leads – despite signs asking for them to be kept on a lead around the lake.

“We just want to put a reminder out there to please don’t leave litter and to keep your dog on a lead because they’re running around and chasing the chicks,” he said.

“And I know we’re in a health crisis and people are doing all sorts for the NHS, but we’d be grateful for any donations people could spare.”

Wychbold Swan Rescue Centre can be contacted on 07786 434793, both for emergencies and for anyone who would like to contribute to their work.
