Plenty of fun for everyone in Redditch

THE funfair is coming to town as the summer long bandstand programme reaches its climax on Saturday, September 16.

Featuring Tommy Wilson’s traditional fair, the Oya Batacuda Samba Band plus a £500 holiday voucher prize for the winner of the fancy dress competition, it promises to be a fantastic afternoon for all the family.

Activities include community stalls, food from around the world, samba workshops, loads of childrens’ events and the funfair itself.

Music will come from the Oya Batacuda Samba Band, It’s A Sign Choir, Alcester Music Company and the Bootsmiths Buskers Band while Olivia’s Dance Studio will give a dancing demonstration.

The fun starts at 12noon and runs until 4pm with the fancy dress parade assembling at 2.45pm at the Post Office at the top of Alcester Street.

The parade will start at 3pm with judging taking place at 3.15pm.

Organiser Sue Yeng said: “The September Bandstand is particularly exciting for me because the fair comes to town and brings back all those emotions from when l was young. l used to love Redditch Carnival and Wilson’s Fair!

“Hopefully we will be recreating some of the excitement of the Carnival with having the Samba Band, the fancy dress parade and competition and all the performances.

“The number of people who come is very uplifting – where people didn’t even know the area existed before we started to do these events now we have visitors from Kings Norton and even Kidderminster.”

The event has been backed by Redditch Borough Council, the Town Centre Partnership, Tommy Wilson’s Funfair and divisional fund donations from county councillors.
