THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to Feckenham over the weekend to see more than 50 scarecrow exhibits and creations.

The village’s annual Scarecrow Weekend in the village boasted a variety of strawfolk and creatures – from cowboy builders to the King and Queen.

After a tense count on Sunday afternoon the runaway winner was named as Crowboy Builders ,designed and built by Chloe Holmes, with Hairy Scary Tooth Fairy and Dig Dee as second and third.

The competition was judged by the public – visitors picked up a map and a voting slip and followed the Scarecrow Trail around the village before returning to The Square to cast their votes.

There were also prizes and certificates for the under-11s won by groups of children at Feckenham First School.

The best entry by a person under 11 years was Jack Skelton, built by Albert and Alfie Scott-Ison.

Ian Bellion, one of the event organisers, said: “The weather was exceptionally kind and the people came in droves.

“It was a terrific success and we’d like to thank everyone who volunteered, constructed the amazingly imaginative scarecrows and visited the village to join in the fun.

“All in all, it was a very successful revival of a village tradition.

“The scarecrow makers had fun making their men of straw and visitors from far and wide had a lovely day out. What’s not to like?”
