WE’RE talking rubbish on the Redditch Standard podcast this week with Anna Wardell-Hill from Redditch Borough Council.
Anna is the authority’s environmental police and awareness officer and she was in the studio as the council rolls out a new initiative to get more people recycling their rubbish.
According to the council every year about ten per cent of the items put in household green bins have to be sent for incineration instead of being turned into new products.
This is because it either contains too many items which are non-recyclable or good recyclable materials have been spoiled by liquids, grease or food waste.
The top five items Redditch residents most often incorrectly put in their green bin include clothing, food waste, nappies, household items and wood.
Anna tells us what should – and what shouldn’t – go in your recycling bin.
