Poetry for mental health awareness

Redditch Editorial 2nd Oct, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

POETRY will be used to raise awareness of mental health issues as part of the borough’s second ever Wellbeing Week.

Organised by Redditch Mental Health Action Group, the evening which starts at the Redi Centre on South Street at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 7, will see residents taking to the stage to read their favourite poem.

Refreshments and cake will be available, with guests able to bring their own alcoholic drinks. The evening is free to attend but donations to MHAG are welcome.

MHAG chair Harriet Ernstsons said: “Being creative can be a great way to help those struggling with their mental health to express their feelings and focus on something positive. There are some beautiful pieces of poetry written by those with mental health issues or about the subject and we hope sharing them will enable more people to come forward and discuss how their illness affects them.”

For more information about MHAG or the event, e-mail [email protected] or call 01527 588656.
