Police advice to motorists on frosty mornings

Redditch Editorial 19th Jan, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

AS COLDER mornings sweep across Redditch, West Mercia Police are urging motorists to take care before leaving home for their morning commutes.

This time of year often sees an increase in reported thefts of cars and vans, which is often due to drivers leaving their vehicles unattended with engines running while the car warms up and windscreens clear.

When clearing vehicles of morning frost, motorists should not leave their cars unattended with engines running as this makes them easy pickings for criminals – plus insurance companies will not pay out if your car is stolen in this manner.

Always keep vehicles locked where possible and clear the windscreen last, working round with a scraper.

Officers remind motorists it is very important to clear windows fully before driving away as not doing so is an offence and will massively increase the likelihood of a road traffic collision.
