POLICE patrols have been stepped up in Woodrow following anti-social behaviour in the area.
Redditch Police have spoken to local businesses, residents and people visiting.
Officers believe the disorder around Woodrow centre is being caused by people who are not from the local area and have deliberately attended with the intention of causing crime and disruption which is impacting the community.
Officers have also been boarding buses as part of the clampdown and have responded to online speculation about the anti-social behaviour.
They highlight several online reports being circulated which claim Woodrow is a ‘no-go area’. Police say these posts are inaccurate and spreading misinformation to suggest people take their own action to combat the unruly behaviour.
Redditch Police Safer Neighbourhood Team Insp Richard Field said: “The level of animosity directed to the Woodrow community, following a recent fatal crash is unwarranted and impacting a community who are already grieving.
“I’ve met some of nicest people in Woodrow, and it remains a safe place to live, work and visit.”
He added the police had never advised people avoided the area.
“In fact, we would ask that you help this community by using the local businesses affected by the current online anger towards this community.
“West Mercia Police has responded with our partners to address the ASB.
“We do not condone or tolerate the ASB and have several investigations ongoing to identify and take action against the minority of people who we believe are from out of the area.”
