A POLICE operation at Hopwood Services caught almost 50 drivers for a multitude of motoring offences.

Operation Spotlight focused on reducing serious and fatal crashes by focusing on the ‘Fatal Four’. These include speeding or driving at an inappropriate speed, handheld mobile phone use at the wheel, failure to wear seatbelts and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

West Mercia Police’s Operational Policing Unit (OPU) undertook the operation.

Officer said, whilst the majority of drivers were responsible, co-operative and receptive to advice, enforcement action was taken against those who flouted the law.

A total of 27 drivers were caught speeding, five for having an overweight vehicle and four did not have a valid MoT. Two drivers were found to have no insurance, two vehicles had defective tyres and one driver was reported for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Three drivers were not wearing a seatbelt and two had not paid road tax. Three vehicles were seized by police.

Following the operation, OPU said it would continue to take proactive action to tackle unsafe driving behaviours and improve road safety for all road users.
