POLICE are offering The Little Book of Big Scams to help business owners in Redditch fight fraud.
West Mercia Police have worked with colleagues at The Metropolitan Police Service to bring local and regional businesses The Little Book of Big Scams.
As a part of the ‘Your Business Matters’ initiative, the book highlights the importance of taking simple steps to protect your business infrastructure from being targeted by criminals.
The Little Book of Big Scams offers crime prevention advice to guard against fraud and online fraud and provides businesses with practical tips and guidance to help them identify the risks.
Superintendent Sue Thomas, the force lead on business crime, said:”We hope that The Little Book of Big Scams encourages business owners to incorporate the recommended precautions to help their companies stay protected.
“We accept that business owners often appreciate the importance of reinforcing their security procedures but find it difficult to find time in their busy schedules. We hope that The Little Book of Big Scams helps with this task and makes the process simpler and smoother.
“All too often we are approached by businesses after they have become victims of crime and we are keen to reduce this number. We are working to engage with as many businesses as possible before they fall victim in the hope to prevent this from happening.”
Detective Chief Inspector Tim Bower from the force specialist operations unit, said:”Businesses are increasingly being targeted by fraudsters and figures released by Get Safe Online and Action Fraud show that fraud and cyber crime cost the UK economy almost £11 billion last year.
“Basic crime prevention and risk management information provided in The Little Book of Big Scams could protect against a large number of cyber attacks suffered by businesses. Being aware of the kind of tactics used by fraudsters and understanding the scams to look out for can go a long way towards ensuring that your systems and infrastructure remain secure.”
People can access The Little Book of Big Scams by visiting the fraud section of the Your Business Matters page on West Mercia Police website, where more information on how to protect businesses is available.
People can also contact local business or cyber crime coordinators, advisors or design out crime officers for more information and advice.
