FIGURES released by West Mercia Police show police officer numbers are set to reach their highest level in more than ten years.

More than 400 officers have joined West Mercia as part of recruitment drives by Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion and the Government.

West Mercia Police has launched another recruitment drive to not only fill vacancies, but add an additional 125 officers.

This will bring the total number of officers to 2,456 – the highest it has been since 2009 and close to the highest number of officers on record.

Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch said: “There are now more police officers on our streets than when I was first elected – something I promised I would deliver by consistently voting for more funding for our police.

“More brave officers are keeping you and your families safe and I will always be incredibly grateful for everything they do.

“Not only are we getting more officers in Redditch, but we’re getting a new, fit-for-purpose joint police and fire station which maintains the visible police presence my constituents want and enables them to continue the to deliver an excellent level of service to Redditch.”
