A BRAND new £4,700 jetty was officially opened in a Redditch village last weekend by Mayor Joe Baker.
Callow Hill village celebrated the completion of work to replace their community pond jetty by welcoming the Mayor Baker to perform the opening on Sunday (September 18) when he was joined by residents and children from the estate to cut a ceremonial ribbon.
A grant from the Big lottery Fund for almost £4,000 was secured to cover the cost of replacing the original jetty, which had served the community for over 30 years, but had become uneven and rotten in places.
The replacement is now the centre-piece of the pathways through the estate and provides a safe, elevated position to view the wildlife living in and around the pond.
Darrin Hatfield, Secretary of Callow Hill Village Ltd, said: “The jetty is in the heart of the village, at the centre of the pathways that link the village with our local park, Morton Stanley.
“It offers a convenient location for children and adults alike to take in the wildlife around the pond and we hope it will be enjoyed for many years to come.”
