GET ready for some painting that is out of this world – and some that’s closer to home, at the new Arts in Redditch Pop-Up gallery.
Running until May 6, the venue, in Walford Walk in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, will feature pieces by more than 50 local artists, including watertower devotee Steve Pound, who’s just finished a painting commissioned by Redditch MP Rachel Maclean.
“I’m putting four pieces in the exhibition,” said Steve, who specialises in both digital printing and oils.
“There’s the ‘Redditch Pencil Tower’ the ‘WaterNova’, the watertower as a cotton reel with a needle through it in homage to our industrial past and one I’ve done featuring a train coming out of the old Redditch tunnel in Tunnel Drive.”
This last piece was created after he was inspired by old photographs of the days when the trains ran through Redditch, not just terminated here.
And the watertower? That’s the smokestack.
