ONE of the region’s most popular choirs is looking to recruit more members at a special open evening at the Jubilee Centre in Alcester.

Alcester Male Voice Choir is one of the West Midlands’ most in-demand and much-loved ensembles and was founded 44 years ago by its current Director of Music Judith Land BEM.

Under her leadership, the choir has grown to be one of the most successful in the area.

“Our membership at the moment stands at just over 80 men, drawn from all walks of life, of all musical abilities and of all ages, but we do lose members through a variety of reasons so it is essential to secure the future of the choir through constant recruitment,” said Judith.

“Potential members often hesitate to take that first step and I fully understand why.

“However, I would like to assure any gentleman interested that they would be made most welcome.

“There are no stressful auditions, they will receive help and guidance every step of the way; they don’t have to read music.

They will make new friends and above all have fun and through singing probably be healthier!”

New members though have to have an interest in singing and be able to attend Wednesday evening rehearsals.

Only when they feel confident will they be asked to take part in the choir’s regular concerts.

“I urge anyone who feels they would like to find out what its all about to come along to our open evening; they can just sit and watch and learn how it works or join in,” said Judith.

“If they are still uncertain why not come along with a friend?”

The open evening will be held on Wednesday, September 19 from 7.30pm at the Jubilee Centre in St Faiths Road.
