A REDDITCH Postmaster is celebrating 30 years serving the town’s community.
The former electrician and sprayer, originally from Smethwick, has absolutely no regrets about going self-employed and taking on the Post Office and shop at 91 Mason Road in 1993.
Postmaster Amarjit Andev said: “The people here are wonderful. I have never had any trouble.
“I know all of my regular customers by first name or surname.
“I was reminiscing about when I first arrived and those mums I first served to pay child allowance, now have grown up children and many have grandchildren.
“Being here for 30 years, means I know people really well – they are like family.
“I want to thank my customers for their loyalty over the last 30 years and to thank Post Office for allowing me the opportunity to run a Post Office and shop.”
Amarjit’s business started as a Post Office and newsagents.
The retail side of the business developed into a convenience store selling a wide range of goods.
The shop was fully refurbished two years ago after lockdown.
Amarjit added: “We didn’t miss a single day throughout the pandemic.
“I had wonderful staff who all turned up to continue to serve the community.
“People wanted to stay local and didn’t want to travel to get food or to visit the Post Office.
“People sent letters to the local paper to thank us for all that we were doing.”
Post Office area manager, Sarah Harris, visited Amarjit to present him with his Post Office 30 Years’ Long Service Award.
She said: “Amarjit is a pillar of his community.
“We want to thank him for his loyal and dedicated service to the people of Redditch.
“He is very knowledgeable about Post Office services and he really cares about his community.”
