POPWORLD in Redditch is set to host themed nightclub events for people with learning difficulties.
Events will take place every third Wednesday of the month, between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
The venue, based on Church Green, will launch its first event on February 19 and it will follow a Valentine’s Day theme.
In the future there are plans to also have St Patrick’s Day, Easter, movies and 1990s-themed events.
Support worker Keeleigh Franke and two people which she supports, Matthew Stokes and Heather Titcombe, suggested the idea to Popworld bosses last month.
Keeleigh, who also works at Popworld part-time, said: “I went with Matthew to check out Popworld on a normal night and he told me that he would love to go there but not on a weekend because it’s too loud and crowded.
“My manager at Popworld was really on board with the idea when we brought it to him, and since then he’s been helping us design posters and logos for the launch event.”
Matthew and Heather added that they were really excited for the first night because it will provide a safer environment for them to meet new people and have a dance.
Keeleigh, Matthew and Heather are currently in talks with charities like Where Next? to help promote the first event.
